Meaning

Yaakov is very similar to the name Yaacov, with the only difference being the spelling. Like Yaacov, Yaakov means “supplanter”, and is derived from the word “akev”. It is also significant in Jewish culture as Yaakov, also known as Jacob, was one of the patriarchs in the Torah. Yaakov’s story is filled with twists and turns, including his famous dream of a ladder reaching up to heaven, and his marriages to both Leah and Rachel. One of the most famous stories associated with Yaakov is his struggle with an angel, which resulted in him being given the name “Israel”, meaning “he who struggles with God”. This name continues to be popular among Jewish families to this day.
